Nurse's Aide (CNA)

Length: 2 1/2 Months

Admission Requirements:

• Copy of your social security card and a valid photo ID required at registration
• Minimum age 16
• No criminal convictions or probation
• Be in good general health
• Able to lift and move residents
• Competent English communication skills (speaking, reading, & writing) / Instruction provided in English
• Current Shot Records as required by the TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH (MMR, TD, and TB; due by 3rd class meeting)
• Book and course manual are required at first class meeting
• Read policies listed in course manual before first class meeting
• A form must be signed at the first class meeting regarding policies and procedures, confidentiality, and a general release from liability
• Clinicals: White scrubs & shoes and picture name tag; you will be notified in class when pictures will be taken
• If you have a revoked Nurse Aide License, you will not be permitted to take the state certification exam. This information will be verified before the exam is scheduled.

Home Health Aide

• Competent English communication skills (speaking, reading, & writing) / Instruction provided in English

MH/MR Services Technician

Length: 4 Weeks

TX MHMR Hiring Requirements:

• Minimum age 18
• 12 hours college credit OR pass Adult Basic Learning Examination (ABLE) at North Texas State Hospital
• Competent English communication skills (speaking, reading, & writing) / Instruction provided in English
• Must attend all classes (no exceptions)
• A form must be signed at the first class meeting regarding confidentiality, release of information, and a general release from liability
• North Texas State Hospital applicants receive bonus points for being enrolled in this course and extra bonus points for successful completion of the course.
• An applicant may not be employed at the North Texas State Hospital if he or she has a conviction which constitutes a bar to employment or is a contraindication to employment, is listed as revoked in the Nurse Aide Registry, is listed as unemployable in the Employee Misconduct Registry, has been terminated for client abuse or neglect, or has a confirmed Class I Abuse. If an applicant has been convicted of a felony that is not a bar or a contraindication, then it is possible to hire with approval from the Superintendent

The Medication Aide Program is a marketable skills program that generates an institutional certificate.

Length: 3 1/2 Months

Admission Requirements:

Student Requirements
I.	Employed on the first day of class by a nursing home as a Certified Nurse Aide currently on the Texas Nurse Aide Registry, in a skilled Medicare or Medicaid facility.
OR
II.	Employed on the first day of class as a non-licensed direct-care staff person of a: State School; or Personal Care Home that is licensed under the Health & Safety Code, Chapter 247; or MHMR program operated under the jurisdiction of TXMHMR; or Correctional facility (prison) administered by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice;
	and also employed as a direct care staff person for at least 90 days of continuous employment within the past twelve months before the course begins.
	Hospitals and Home Health agencies do not qualify as employers. To ask if your facility qualifies, call the Texas Medication Aide office in Austin at 512-231-5827.
AND
	18 years of age before the first day of class High school diploma or GED Able to interact with others, and the elderly, in a positive manner Competent English communication skills (speaking, reading, & writing) / Instruction provided in English No criminal convictions or probation No illegal drug use Able to follow written and verbal instructions Be in good general health In-person registration required
